VANCOUVER — Vancouver Park Board commissioners have approved a concept plan for a new park at Burrard Slopes, which in turn gives the green light for the development and construction of a new one-hectare neighbourhood park on the border of Kitsilano and Fairview.
Once complete, the park will feature a off-leash dog area, central lawn area and meadow walk, skateboard and small-wheels spot, fitness area, washroom, an expanded playground and accessible pathways, states a release.
The final concept design for the park was amended in 2025, following the acquisition by the Park Board of property at 5th Avenue and Fir Street.
“By purchasing this final parcel of land on the block, staff were able to expand the park footprint with more space for amenities, including a new fitness area with workout equipment,” the release notes.
Planned features include:
- A large, level lawn at the heart of the park to support a range of activities, including day-to-day socializing and small local events.
- An expanded playground featuring a seesaw, universally accessible spinner and swing set, with accessible surfacing and a circuit pathway.
- An enclosed dog off-leash area, separate from the lawn and garden areas.
- A skateboard and small-wheel spot, specifically designed to be approachable and accessible for all ages and abilities. The plaza-style skatepark will be surrounded by planted hills to mitigate sound and create a safe buffer from other park activities, the city adds.
- New pollinator and rain gardens featuring a diverse selection of native and adapted flowers and planting.
Staff will now begin developing detailed designs ahead of construction planned for 2027.
