$46M allotted to rural Saskatchewan road, bridge and culvert projects

REGINA – The Ministry of Highways and Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) recently announced more than $46 million for planned road, bridge and culvert projects to keep rural Saskatchewan and the province’s export-based economy moving.

According to a release, under the Rural Integrated Roads for Growth (RIRG) program, the provincial government will invest more than $16.9 million toward 41 projects and rural municipalities (RMs) will fund the remaining more than $29.1 million.

The RIRG program is funded by the Government of Saskatchewan, administered by SARM and invests in RM road infrastructure.

The program contributes up to 50 per cent per project to a maximum of $500,000 for a road and to a maximum $1 million for a large culvert or a bridge.

RMs fund the remainder and are responsible for managing their approved projects, along with any additional costs, the release adds.

RIRG is overseen by a joint SARM and Ministry of Highways Program Management Board.
