VANCOUVER – A respite centre and 89 new affordable rental homes are now open for people in North Vancouver.
The building is phase one of a multi-phase North Shore Neighbourhood House redevelopment at 144 St. George’s Ave. The six-storey building has a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, along with a family respite centre with 18 overnight beds and 25 adult day care spaces operated by Care BC, a release reads.
Twenty per cent of the homes are accessible for people with increased mobility requirements, such as people using wheelchairs. This includes one- and two-bedroom units.
Funding for phase one includes $11 million from the province, through BC Housing’s Shovel Ready Housing grant, approximately $11.1 million from Care BC to fund the family respite centre and approximately $33.5 million in financing from CMHC.
The City of North Vancouver contributed the land, as well as $5 million in site-preparation work, including utility work.
There are three development phases of the North Shore Neighbourhood House site in Lower Lonsdale.
Phase two is a mixed-use building, incorporating a three-storey neighbourhood house, along with 179 units of affordable housing delivered by Catalyst and the City of North Vancouver. °µÍø½ûÇøion began on this phase in 2025 and is expected to be completed in 2028.
Phase three will include the demolition of the old neighbourhood house in 2028 and the construction of a new public park.
The new neighbourhood house will offer child care, youth and seniors’ programs, recreational and wellness programs, and food-security programs.
When complete, the site will provide almost 270 affordable homes.
