GRIMSBY, ONT. — A grand opening was recently held for the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby, Ont., a project that saw shovels in the ground in May 2022.
According to a release, the build was supported by a provincial investment of nearly $250 million.
The Hamilton Health Sciences facility is nearly 80 per cent larger than the facility it is replacing and is the first new hospital in Ontario to include all single-patient rooms.
Here are some features of the project:
- Expanded patient capacity with the addition of nine new, fully private inpatient beds, bringing the total to 55 beds and six birthing suites.
- A new 24/7 emergency department.
- Maternal and newborn services.
- Day surgical services, including three operating rooms and a procedure room.
- Fully renovated and advanced diagnostic imaging suites including X-ray, mammography, echocardiography and ultrasound and CT scanning.
The project was delivered through a design-build-finance model and was led by EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare (EDIH).
According to EDIH, crews poured approximately 13,000 cubic metres of concrete and placed roughly 14,000 cubic metres of backfill.
Approximately 270 workers were onsite during peak construction and roughly 860,000 total working hours were carried out, EDIH reports.
