CLARINGTON, ONT. — The Ontario government has announced funding for two recreation projects, one in Bowmanville and the other in Curve Lake First Nation.
Approximately $10 million is going towards construction of the South Bowmanville Recreation Centre in the Municipality of Clarington. The money will help develop the facility into a dynamic community hub for sport and recreation, states a release.
°µÍø½ûÇøion is already underway with key additions including a FIBA-standard double gymnasium, a 25-metre lap pool and therapeutic tank, a FIFA-size indoor turf field, five new multi-purpose spaces and an over-850-square metre outdoor refrigerated skating trail.
The province is also investing more than $6.3 million for construction of a new multi-season covered outdoor arena in Curve Lake First Nation.
The new arena will be designed for year-round use, featuring a covered, refrigerated ice surface alongside amenities, including change rooms and accessible washrooms.
The arena will provide a hub for activities like hockey and figure skating during the winter months, and lacrosse and ball hockey in the warmer seasons, the release adds.
The projects are part of the $200 million Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund, a provincewide initiative to help communities revitalize local facilities.
