Interfor reports wider Q4 loss of $104.6M amid production curtailments

BURNABY, B.C. — Interfor Corp. says it recorded a net loss of $104.6 million in the fourth quarter, compared with a net loss of $49.9 million in the same period a year earlier.

This amounted to a net loss per share of $1.59 during the quarter, compared with 97 cents last year.

The B.C.-based forest products producer says its total sales amounted to $600.6 million during the period ended Dec. 31, down from $746.5 million during the prior year quarter.

Interfor’s lumber production totalled 753 million board feet during the fourth quarter, down year-over-year from 948 million.

In October of last year, the company announced it was increasing planned production cuts for the fourth quarter across its operations in B.C., Ontario and the U.S. due to persistently weak market conditions and ongoing economic uncertainty.

Going forward, Interfor says it expects the North American lumber market to remain volatile as the economy adjusts to changing monetary policies, tariffs, geopolitical uncertainy and more.
