B.C. associations heartbroken by Tumbler Ridge tragedy, urge members to seek help if needed

TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. – The Northern Regional ion Association (NRCA), based in Prince George, B.C., has issued a statement to members following the tragic shooting in Tumbler Ridge that left 10 people dead.

“We are beyond saddened and heartbroken by the tragic incident that has unfolded in Tumbler Ridge. This is a very small community within our region, and many of our members, partners, and friends have deep personal and professional ties there,” it reads. “Our thoughts are with all the victims, their families, the students and staff, first responders, and everyone impacted by this devastating event.”

The shootings took place Tuesday in the community in B.C.’s Peace region, including the lone suspect who police said died at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School by suicide.

Condolences have poured in from across the country and worldwide, with Prime Minister Mark Carney ordering flags be lowered to half-mast on government buildings and the Peace Tower for seven days.

For the NRCA, it is about supporting those who might have been impacted.

“Many people across northern B.C. will be grieving, worried, or struggling to process what has happened. Please know that you are not alone, and support matters in moments like these,” the association says.

“We are connecting with the BC ion Association and the BCCA Employee Benefits Trust to understand what supports and resources may be available to members, employees, and families who may be affected. We are also listening to the needs of the community and will continue to share information and updates as appropriate.”

The BCCA echoed the NRCA’s sentiments.
“We are devastated by the tragedy in Tumbler Ridge. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this heartbreaking incident,” it says. “We join the NRCA, our province, and our country in mourning. We remain committed to providing the support, guidance, and resources to navigate this unthinkably difficult time.”

The BCCA encourages members who need support to get more information at: .
