Criminal charge laid in death of worker at underground jobsite in Mississauga

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. – Peel Police recently announced they have arrested and charged a site supervisor following the death of a man working underground at a jobsite in Mississauga in December 2022.

The victim, Joaquim (Jack) Silva, a 54-year-old man from Mississauga employed with Technicore Underground Inc., sustained fatal injuries while servicing a damaged pipeline. 

On Dec. 2, 2022, Peel Police responded to a call about an industrial mishap in an underground water chamber on a property located at Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Road West, an April 12 police report stated.

Following a criminal investigation, on March 28, 2024, Joseph Di Millo, a Technicore project supervisor, was arrested and charged with one count of criminal negligence causing death.
Di Millo was released and will attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date.

Technicore Underground Inc. is required to be in court on May 31.

Technicore, based in Sharon, Ont. works primarily on projects in the tunnelling sector.
